Description & objectives: This is an introductory course aimed at post-secondary students who need English in their academic studies. The units in the assigned textbook cover a variety of topics relevant to students in higher education and focus on a wide range of academic reading, writing, research and/or vocabulary skills. The aims of this course are to help post-secondary students become more effective in their studies by:
• Developing strategies to improve reading skills
• Developing strategies to produce more coherent writing
• Developing strategies to deal with new or unknown vocabulary
• Promoting learner independence
Evaluation: First Midterm Exam 20%, Second Midterm Exam 20%, Quizzes and Participation 10% and Final Exam 50%.
