Description & objectives: This is a developmental skills course for students of English as a second or foreign language. Serving as both a reference and a workbook, the assigned textbook introduces students to the form, meaning, and usage of basic structures in English. It provides ample practice through extensive and varied written and oral exercises. The aims of this course are to help post-secondary students become more effective in their English use by:
• Cementing the basic English structures they have learnt at school
• Practising English structures at the sentence and paragraph levels
• Developing strategies to deal with new structures
• Promoting learner independence
Evaluation: First Midterm Exam 20%, Second Midterm Exam 20%, Quizzes and Participation 10% and Final Exam 50%.
